Amaravati, November 28, 2025: Andhra Pradesh has transformed nearly 22,000 kilometres of roads into pothole-free stretches over the past six months through a Rs 1,600 crore fast-track drive, Roads and Buildings Minister BC Janardhan Reddy revealed Thursday, crediting the NDA government's urgency for the turnaround.
The initiative addressed immediate hazards while sanctioning Rs 3,000 crore for renewing 14,983 km of C-category roads, including Rs 1,000 crore from plan budgets, Rs 1,000 crore in tenders, and Rs 777 crore via government orders. Additionally, 175 roads spanning 539 km are earmarked for public-private partnerships, with feasibility reports submitted and tenders imminent.
Reddy lambasted the previous YSRCP regime for leaving a Rs 20,000 crore maintenance backlog, rendering over 15,000 km beyond simple fixes and stalling projects like the Anantapur Expressway and Amaravati Ring Road.
"Roads need renewal every five years, and potholes must be fixed on the spot," he said, noting black soil and heavy rains continue to challenge Guntur, Krishna, East and West Godavari, and North Andhra stretches.
