Amaravati, November 29, 2025: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hailed Amaravati as a "model for future capital cities" on Friday, laying the foundation stones for office buildings of major banking institutions like the Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India, and NABARD, marking a crucial step in reviving the greenfield project after years of limbo.
"Amaravati's vision of a sustainable, people-centric city blending green spaces, smart infrastructure, and economic vibrancy positions it as a template for urban India," Sitharaman said at the APCRDA office on Seed Access Road, emphasising its potential to drive the state's $1 trillion economy goal.
The ceremony, attended by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and other dignitaries, unveiled sites for the RBI on four acres, SBI on three, NABARD on one, and smaller plots for banks like Indian Bank and Bank of Baroda.
Sitharaman underscored the Centre's commitment to Amaravati, noting Rs 15,000 crore in central schemes for roads and irrigation to complement state efforts. Naidu reciprocated, thanking her for the "moral and financial boost," and vowed to complete the core infrastructure within three years.
