Amaravati, December 28: The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a dedicated State Level Committee to re-examine and finalise the classification of dry and Jareebu lands across 202.205 acres in villages designated for the capital region.
Jareebu lands refer to fertile, irrigated or highly productive areas (often yielding multiple crops), while dry lands (also called metta) depend mainly on rainfall and support limited cultivation.
This distinction matters under land pooling schemes, asthe Jareebu classification typically brings higher benefits, such ase larger commercial plot returns and annuities for farmers who contributed land to Amaravati's growth.
The panel includes senior officials from revenue, groundwater, horticulture, survey, and agriculture departments. It will conduct field verifications based on set criteria, using a cutoff date of December 8, 2014, and submit its report to the Guntur Collector within 45 days.
