Amaravati, December 31: The Andhra Pradesh government has started modernising the Sankaraguptam Major Drain in Dr B R Ambedkar Konaseema district with an outlay of ₹20.77 crore.

The work covers desilting a 8-km stretch, strengthening embankments along 14.5 km, and clearing encroachments across roughly 250 acres. The project targets long-standing seawater ingress that has damaged lakhs of coconut trees and hurt farmers in the Razole area.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan virtually laid the foundation stone from Mangalagiri, after raising the issue with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Funds were approved in just 35 days. Officials stressed quick action to protect agriculture despite budget limits.
