Amaravati, January 04: A major boost for northern Andhra Pradesh arrived today as the Bhogapuram International Airport near Visakhapatnam successfully conducted its first validation flight.
An Air India aircraft landed smoothly on the 3.8 km runway, one of India's longest, confirming the readiness of navigation, safety systems, and procedures. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu was among those on board, highlighting the project's role in unlocking regional development.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu hailed the event as a new milestone for state aviation. He noted the airport's origins in the 2014-2019 period and thanked national leadership for support.
Developed by GMR Group under the PPP model, the facility stands at over 95% completion. It promises stronger links for Vizag and the surrounding areas, driving jobs, trade, and investment in Uttarandhra.
