Amaravati, January 04, 2026: Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu confirmed the central government plans to revise the current policy restricting new airports within 150 km of existing ones.

Rising passenger numbers make multiple facilities essential in key urban areas. He highlighted ongoing projects in cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and near Delhi to handle saturation at current hubs.

The statement followed the successful first commercial validation flight at the Alluri Sitharama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram, Vizianagaram district, near Visakhapatnam.

An Air India aircraft tested runway, navigation, and airside systems, marking a major step toward full operations expected by mid-2026.
