Amaravati, January 04, 2026: A key infrastructure milestone arrives in Nellore district tomorrow as officials perform bhumi puja for a new bridge across the Pottepalem sluice spillway on January 5.

The ceremony will feature Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, MLC and TDP district president Beeda Ravichandra, and Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy.

The ₹4.85 crore project, sanctioned by the state government, addresses a decades-old challenge. Water from Nellore Cheruvu flows over the spillway for about seven months annually after monsoon, making the narrow road unsafe especially for two-wheelers and sometimes stranding vehicles.

The bridge promises reliable, year-round connectivity between Nellore city and western district areas, benefiting residents in Nellore Rural, Sarvepalli, Atmakur, Kovur, and Udayagiri constituencies. It also supports smoother access toward Rayalaseema and shortcuts to national highways.
