Vizag, January 05, 2026: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has commissioned its Residue Upgradation Facility (RUF) at the Visakh Refinery in Visakhapatnam.

This 3.55 million metric tonnes per annum unit uses cutting-edge residue hydrocracking technology the world's first LC-Max based system, to convert 93% of heavy residue into valuable products like diesel.

It features three of the heaviest reactors globally, each around 2,200 tonnes, all built with domestic engineering expertise.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu hailed the development as a major milestone for the state under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for strengthening the refinery and expressed optimism that the broader Visakh Refinery Modernisation Project will position the East Coast as a top refining hub.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri echoed this, noting the project's role in enhancing national energy security and reducing import dependence.
