Amaravati, January 05, 2026: A natural gas blowout erupted at ONGC's Mori-5 well near Irusumanda village in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred during production enhancement repairs by contractor Deep Industries Ltd, sending flames about 25 meters high and releasing significant gas mixed with crude oil.

No casualties or injuries have occurred, with no habitation within 600 meters of the site.

Local authorities, including District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar, quickly evacuated residents within a 1-4 km radius and coordinated firefighting with ONGC, fire services, and NDRF teams.

Cooling operations using water from a nearby canal and nitrogen tankers are underway, while ONGC mobilizes international well-control experts for potential capping or flow control. The well holds an estimated reserve exceeding 30 million cubic feet of natural gas.
