Amaravati, January 05, 2026: The YSR Congress Party launched sharp attacks on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, accusing his government of betraying drought-prone Rayalaseema by stalling the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project.
Opposition leaders cited recent statements from Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who claimed Naidu agreed to stop the scheme designed to lift 3 TMCFT of water daily from Srisailam reservoir for irrigation and drinking needs, following pressure and discussions between the two states.
Senior YSRCP figures described the move as a "death warrant" for the region and alleged personal or political deals sacrificed Andhra Pradesh's water rights. They pointed to protests in places like Tirupati demanding safeguards for Rayalaseema's share of Krishna basin waters and warned of mass agitation if the project is not revived swiftly.
