Amaravati, January 11, 2026: G Gurumoorthy Setti, a 75-year-old farmer from Yeduru village in Gangavaram mandal, Chittoor district, has created a game-changing “Six-in-One Model” machine for sericulture.
This affordable device, built over five years with local parts and guidance from Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University in Tirupati, combines harvesting, cleaning, and transportation of silk cocoons into one unit.
It runs manually, on battery, or via motorbike power, using conveyor belts and gentle mesh screens to clean cocoons without damage.
Earlier, producing 600 kg of cocoons monthly required 35 labourers and incurred expenses exceeding Rs 20,000 in harvesting costs. Now, just seven workers handle the task for about Rs 3,500. Profit margins reach 60-70%, turning sericulture into a strong livelihood on his eight-acre farm, which also grows mulberry, paddy, mango, and vegetables.
