Amaravati, January 12, 2026: The Telugu Desam Party-led state government has made finishing the Jhanjavati irrigation project by 2026 a top priority. Parvatipuram MLA Bonela Vijaya Chandra highlighted this during local Sankranti events, stressing it will ease water shortages for farmers in Parvathipuram Manyam district.
The project, a medium irrigation scheme on the interstate Jhanjavati River (a Nagavali tributary), aims to irrigate around 25,000 acres, including new and stabilised farmland across several mandals, while also supplying drinking water to nearby Odisha areas.
Progress depends on cross-border cooperation, including land acquisition in Odisha efforts the MLA advanced through discussions with Odisha's Chief Minister in 2025. Officials from both states are expected to finalise an action plan soon for timely execution.
