Amaravati, January 12, 2026: Andhra Pradesh highways faced severe congestion over the weekend as millions returned to their native villages for Sankranti, the state's major harvest festival.

National Highway 65, linking Hyderabad to Vijayawada and beyond to coastal districts like Krishna, Godavari, and Visakhapatnam, saw bumper-to-bumper traffic, with normal four-hour journeys stretching to seven or more.

Toll plazas reported heavy inflows around 55,000 vehicles crossed near Vijayawada in a single day, while inter-state points handled over a lakh vehicles heading toward Andhra destinations.
