Amaravati, January 15, 2026: The Centre has pushed the Andhra Pradesh government to broaden the use of public-private partnership (PPP) models for delivering better healthcare.

In a letter dated January 12 from Joint Secretary Vijay Nehra to State Health Secretary Saurabh Gaur, the Ministry highlighted five priority areas: nuclear medicine, mobile medical units, dental clinics, radiology services, and cancer day care centres.

It attached detailed 27-page guidelines, suggesting models like Equip-Operate-Maintain and Operate-and-Maintain, with private partners engaged for 5-10 years.

The focus aims to tackle shortages in advanced diagnostics and treatments, such as PET-CT scans and radiotherapy, which remain limited outside major cities.

Cancer care stands out, with 14 day care centres already sanctioned for the state as part of a national target for government hospitals by 2027-28. This builds on earlier central advice to leverage PPP for medical education and infrastructure.
